With a PhD in medicine from Gama Filho University in Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Carvalho de Andrade is a Co-founder, Partner and Chairman at Earth Capital Partners LLP. In 1985 he founded Pro Natura International, one of the world’s first southern international environmental NGOs. He had also a successful career as an Olympic rower for Brazil.

With over 30 years of experience in the sustainability sector, Marcelo has worked as head consultant and manager of several large-scale projects in sustainable development for large corporations, governments and NGO’s. In 1997, Marcelo de Andrade received the George and Cynthia Mitchell International Prize for Sustainable Development, considered an equivalent of the Nobel Prize for sustainable development. In 2005, he was elected president of the Earth Council Alliance and also served on the boards of CONCEC, Counterpart International and Earth Restoration Corps.

He was the strategic adviser for sustainability for Shell’s Executive Board (Royal Dutch Shell PLC). He founded the Pioneer Society, a communication group promoting development and the Social Capital Group, a consultant with the goal of managing the impact on individuals and environment caused by big infrastructure, oil and mining projects. He’s the cofounder of Axial Bank, the first financial institution in South America dedicated to leverage investments on the sustainable development, and founder of Eco Carbono, the first company working on agricultural engineering of carbon sinks. In 2017, he created a partnership with the International Finance Corporation and the Water Resources Group (World Bank and  Harvard University) to create the Shared Value Platform. Marcelo de Andrade believes companies have a boosting power that shouldn't be overlooked. They should invest and help governments and organizations on the support of vulnerable regions.
